Heating and cooling in League City
League City's Building Department schedule, which its page says takes effect August 1, 2026, prices a mechanical permit at a $100 base fee per unit up to 3 tons, then $10 per additional ton (printed as "Per to over 3 tons $10"). The same schedule charges double for work done without a permit, lists contractor registration and annual renewal at $150, and lists a 3.8% convenience fee on credit cards.
TDLR's FAQ cites Occupations Code section 1302.304, which since September 1, 2021 keeps a city from charging registration fees to A/C contractors under a TDLR license; building permit fees are not covered. The two don't line up, so ask the Building Department which applies to your contractor. The Building Department is at 500 W Walker Street, League City, TX 77573. Call 281-554-1429, or Planning at 281-554-1080. Applications and reviews run through the Online Permit Portal, and construction is permitted from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.
The Building page lists the 2021 IMC and the 2021 International Energy Code among the codes it enforces. League City's housing units show 2003 as the median year built (US Census, 2020 to 2024). Tonnage is the number to know, since the fee steps up past 3 tons.

Permits for heating and cooling work in League City
Texas cities issue the permit for replacing a furnace, air conditioner or heat pump, and each city sets its own fee; the ones cited on our Texas page all require one. TDLR licenses the air conditioning and refrigeration contractor, so ask for that license number as well as what your city's permit office needs.
