Florida boiler repair: the estimate and the pay behind it

| Item | Figure | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Estimated range, not a quote | $115 to $710 per repair | Built from one national published range, adjusted by the Florida HVAC technician wage ratio (0.88). Seven Florida HVAC companies publish a price we could count on their own websites; where five or more price the same job, the range is the middle half of their prices, and where two to four do, the estimate is widened to take them in. Coupons, specials and figures a page gives as an average are not counted. Basis: no state company sample (no counted Florida company price for this job), national estimate only. |
| Technician wage, Florida mean | $27.55 an hour | May 2025 BLS pay for Florida HVAC technicians; a boiler bill adds parts and the company's rate. |
How we estimate costs: the Estimated range row is a model, not a quote. We have no counted Florida company price for this job, so the range is our national estimate alone. Our national estimate takes one published national range for this job (a cost guide from a third-party site that we have not verified and do not cite) and multiplies it by Florida's HVAC technician mean wage ratio to the US (0.88, BLS OEWS May 2025, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration mechanics and installers). The wage and permit rows below are what HVAC technicians are paid and what a city charges, and neither is a price. We have not collected quotes. Full method. Prices as of Oct 24, 2026.
Which DBPR category covers a boiler
Section 489.105 describes the mechanical contractor category as unlimited in scope and adding boiler and unfired pressure vessel systems and lift station equipment to the air-conditioning work. The Class A and Class B wording refers to heating systems and doesn't name boilers. Ask the company which DBPR category it works under and search the number on myfloridalicense.com.
Boiler work on a city fee schedule
The Florida city fee schedules this site draws on have lines for air conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces and ductwork and none for a boiler, so ask your city or county permit office what a boiler repair needs.
Boiler faults that need 911
- A gas smell near the boiler: get out, then call 911 from outside.
- Smoke, steam from the relief valve or a carbon monoxide alarm: leave and call 911.
- The boiler is off, the house is warm enough and nothing is leaking.
Before you call
- Note the boiler's make, model and the part that failed.
- Ask which DBPR category the company works under and search it.
- Ask the permit office whether a repair or replacement needs a permit.
Does a Florida boiler repair take a permit?
Miami's, Hernando County's and Lakeland's lists of work exempt from a permit cover repair or part replacement of existing equipment. Phone the permit office with the boiler's make and the failed part, and ask whether the job fits that list.
Florida licenses air-conditioning contractors through DBPR, so before any work starts, get the license number and look it up on DBPR's license search at myfloridalicense.com.
Questions people ask
Which Florida license covers a boiler?
The mechanical contractor category names boilers; ask DBPR about the rest. Section 489.105 lists boiler and unfired pressure vessel systems under the mechanical contractor category. You can search DBPR's portal by license type as well as by number.
How does a boiler repair estimate compare with a furnace repair?
Our boiler range is $115 to $710, and the furnace standard band is $95 to $490. Both are estimates built from different national sources, and neither is a quote. The furnace repair page shows the heavier bands.
How do I compare a boiler repair with replacement?
Set the repair quote against a new system estimate. The repair-or-replace tool works from your own figures, and the furnace replacement page shows an estimate of $2,925 to $6,450 per installed furnace for a furnace.
